Universal Simulation: From Feasability to Insights into our Universe

Holographic overlay of solar structures in the movie Prometheus - left by an exceptionally advanced alien race capable of populating or destroying entire galaxies

In the modern age we have become capable of simulating increasingly complex problems, using mathematics and raw computational power to simulate entire virtual worlds in real time. Current human technologies are still, however, somewhat limited. It is hard to argue that modern computer simulations represent a true simulation of every facet of even contained environments. However, the rate at which human computational capabilities are increasing raises the questions - if a sufficiently technologically advanced race existed, could it simulate an entire universe?

In the attached paper I explore the feasibility of and the means by which a civilisation could simulate on a universal scale.
